Seamus Berkeley
Seamus was born in Ireland and has been painting or drawing in one form or another from early childhood. Although Seamus is happiest when painting from life, he is equally at home with landscapes and subjects veering towards the abstract, usually in Oil.
Seamus has travelled widely and after majoring in Psychology, and Minors in Art and Business, he trained with master painters such as Charles Cross, Nancy Guzik, Quang Ho, Richard Schmid and Teresa Vito. In 1999, Seamus moved to Taos, New Mexico in order to integrate into a more diverse artistic community, and in 2005, he opened a studio in Berkeley, California.
Seamus’s works are collected widely, much of his work being commissioned. He has won several awards, including Best Portrait at the Oil Painters of America show in 2000. He is the founder and past-president of the Taos Society of Portrait Artists and a member of the Oil Painters of America. He is also a past Member of the American Society of Portrait Artists, Montgomery, AL and a past Board member of the Taos Institute of Arts.
Seamus teaches and gives workshops throughout the US and has just completed a short Fine Art Course at the Anam Cara Writers’ and Artists’ Retreat in Co. Cork, Ireland.
