Celia Purcell began exhibiting pictures in 1996. She had a number of artists keen to work with her, but was unable to find a suitable venue. Not long afterwards, Celia held her first show at Gallery Forty-Seven, Great Russell Street. The evening was a great success and her exhibitions continue to this day.
Celia Purcell Contemporary was established twelve years ago. Celia's exhibitions have thrived on the diversity and eclectic works of art she displays both at her 'home' gallery and at selected venues.
She has a keen eye for changing tastes in art, though specialises now particularly in Contemporary Art. Through her late aunt, Heather McConnell, a founding director of The 20th Century British Art Fair and The Grosvenor House Antiques Fair, Celia became involved in the PR arena of the art world.
Off duty, she would find herself mixing with members of the Chelsea Arts Club or visiting one of the many galleries and watering holes frequented in the past by the likes of Augustus John and Francis Bacon.
